Movie Night compared
There are several ways to run a movie night on Discord, and many groups combine them. Here is what each option is good at, and where Movie Night fits.
Discord's built-in polls
Good for
A quick one-off vote with up to 10 answers.
How Movie Night differs
Movie Night's /poll uses native Discord polls too, but fills the choices from the wishlists your group has shared and leaves out movies you have already watched.
Event bots such as Sesh or Apollo
Good for
Scheduling, RSVPs, reminders and calendar sync for any kind of event.
How Movie Night differs
Movie Night does not replace a full event scheduler: it has no RSVPs, calendar sync or Discord events. It covers the movie side: whose turn it is to pick, voting on what to watch, picker and rating reminders, who showed up, ratings afterwards and the group's history.
Letterboxd bots such as Filmlinkd
Good for
Posting members' new Letterboxd diary entries into a channel.
How Movie Night differs
Movie Night tracks what your group watches together and how the group rated it. You can import your Letterboxd history into your personal movie history on the web dashboard, and Movie Night works alongside a Letterboxd bot.
A shared spreadsheet
Good for
Full control, with no bot to add.
How Movie Night differs
Movie Night records ratings from Discord or the web dashboard, so nobody has to update a sheet, and it calculates averages, leaderboards and taste comparisons for you.
