🎬 Movie Night

How to run a movie night on Discord

Six steps for a movie night your server keeps coming back to.

  1. Pick a regular time. A weekly or fortnightly slot is easier to keep than ad hoc nights. Use a Discord scheduled event so people can mark themselves interested.
  2. Decide how movies get chosen. Either take turns, so each person picks in order, or vote as a group. Movie Night supports both: a picker rotation (an admin sets the order, and /next-pick shows whose turn it is), or /poll to vote from the group's shared wishlists.
  3. Keep a shared wishlist. Ask everyone to save movies they want to watch with /wishlist add, then turn on /wishlist share so group polls can use them. Polls then start from a list instead of 30 minutes of scrolling.
  4. Watch together. Stream in a voice channel, or start the movie at the same time on your own services and chat in a text channel.
  5. Rate it afterwards. Have everyone rate the movie with /rate-movie or on the web dashboard while it is fresh. Movie Night can remind people who were there but have not rated yet, automatically after a few days or when an admin runs /remind-last-movie.
  6. Look back. After a few nights, check /stats and the web dashboard for the group's favorites and who picks the best movies, and /rating-chart for the harshest critic.
